Hi everyone, it's time for a new Behind The Songs post. This time, I'm going to tell you everything you need to know -and even more- about Feeling Good.
About 'Feeling Good'
The most popular Muse cover, and covered because of Matt's ex-girlfriend's liking of the song. The song was used by Nescafé for their advertisement but without the band's permission. The band denied them the use of the song because they didn't believe in having their music used to advertise supermarket products. Nescafé withdrew that version for a different version. Muse were subsequently paid £500,000 of settlement money, which they donated to Oxfam.
In an interview with Rocksound Magazine, Bellamy stated that "our interpretation is quite different from the original, but nowhere near as good. I chose it because it’s got brilliant lyrics, and it fits in with some of the other songs on the album. It’s about becoming you – getting rid of your past and thinking about leading a new life. I just want people to know that underlying what I do is something positive, and that I’m not here to kill myself or to destroy the situation we live in.”
In Taratata part 2,the host tells Matt that he has heard that Matt's mother likes the song. Bellamy replies with "loves the song."
"Feeling Good" was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical "The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd", though was made famous when performed by the legendary jazz artist Nina Simone.
Matt's definition of Feeling Good: "The music is very dark and moody but as plain text the lyrics are just a cheesy, happy poem, just so amazingly positive, and It can make you feel like there's really something worth fighting for. It is depressing but it’s almost like humanity singing about how good things could be"
This cover was commonly played live between 2000 and 2003, but wasn't played between Laugardalshöll 2003 and Southside Festival 2006. It was once again played regularly live from 2006 onwards.
This song was played on Spanish TVE: Radio3 as a live recording, in which, after the second verse, Matt Bellamy started swearing in time with the music for two lines; they were told not to swear which angered Muse as they never swore in their music until then, so they swore extensively. Muse have been banned from Radio 3 ever since. During the performance, he sang "Fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking hell! Fucking, fucking little, fucking, fucking fuckers, yeah!".
In live performances, Matt sings the third verse through a megaphone.
My Opinion
Dude, Matt is fucking, fucking little fuckers, yeah! right. The music is very dark and moody, but the lyrics are a cheesy, happy poem, which makes you feel good. This was the song I played the most back when I had to travel to school by train. It usually was still dark in the morning, and this song made me want to get up and sing along. Never did that, through.
Lyrics:
Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds drifting on by you know how I feel
It's a new dawn it's a new day it's a new life for me
And I'm feeling good
Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom in the trees you know how I feel
It's a new dawn it's a new day it's a new life for me
And I'm feeling good
Dragonflies out in the sun
You know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies are all having fun
You know what I mean
Sleep in peace
When the day is done
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me
Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Yeah freedom is mine
And you know how I feel
It's a new dawn it's a new day it's a new life for me
Butterflies, ooh
Oh, ooh ...
Ooooh... Freer than you... Ooooh...
Feeling good

I found out about this blog only a few weeks ago, and I already love it.
The Ultimate Goth Guide is a blog where Amy (the owner of the blog) posts all kinds of posts about the Gothic lifestyle. Het posts are about diffrent Gothic styles, music, shops, tutorials (like how to make a Punk Goth/Deathrock jacket, which I really want to try myself) and much more. Even if you're not a Goth yourself, you should really take a look. It's great.
I only just found out that some guy named James Durbin covered Uprising (from Muse, as you all must know by now) on American Idol, April 22th. Someone on the Muse Messageboard mentioned it, together with the video. So yeah, I've watched it. Hmmm. I'll tell my opinion after posting THE video:
Okay. I feel like punching something now. That James person manages to sing this awesome Muse-made British rock song as if it's just another crappy pop song. With that I mean, compare THAT ^^ to the original Uprising song, and you'll hear that THAT ^^ guy is singing just as artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna, with their 'oh so beautiful' AaaaahaaAAAhaaaaahaaaAAAA at the end of every word, you get what I mean? This guy is going 'TheyyyyhyyyyhYYYhyyyyy wihihiiiiil nohohohoooot controhohohohohohohl uuuuus!' the intire song instead of just singing 'They will not control us'. He probably thinks he's more interesting to listen by doing this, but it really annoys me.
At the other hand, this guy probably can't help it that he has to sing Uprising, since songs mostly are chosen for them and not by the artists themselves at talent shows. I guess he just tried to make it sound better for himself.
Something very funny is that Matt(hew Bellamy of couse) e-mailed this guy personally and suggested James to do the last chorus an octave higher. Bad advice. If Matt would e-mail me, I would save his e-mail and send him a billion fanmails a day...
Note± I haven´t even watched the comments from the jury. The fact that everyone shouted, clapped and smiled at the end of the song was enough. Am I being melodramatic?
I think I made my statement. If you have anything else negative, or anything positive to say about this guy, comments are welcome!
For now, I´m going to listen to the REAL Uprising ;)
This time on Behind The Songs I'm going to tell you all about Hate This & I'll Love You. Hope you won't hate me but love me for this ok that wasn't funny.
About Hate This & I'll Love You
The last song on Showbiz and rarely played live by the band.
Probable meaning: This song is probably about growing tired of a relationship of which you've given your partner too many chances.
Alternative meaning: Could be about the same person as in Hyper Music and Uno. Someone who was associated with the band before they made it, who Matthew Bellamy had reason to dislike. (On a similar theme Sunburn seems to be about a girl who was associated with them, who in contrast Bellamy regrets having to leave behind, because he sees her as a star).
Despite the diferent lenghts, all the songs are actually the same studio version, only with less/more silence at the end (the actual international version is 5:09 long).
If you listen closely throughout the song, crickets can be heard chirpinng.
My Opinion:
I think this is one of the most beautiful Muse song, and possibly even one of the most beautiful songs I know. It's just, you know, the whole song just... It's like if the song was meant to be made this way. It's just so beautiful with the lyrics and the music...
Also, for some reason the lyrics really touch me. Not sure why, but just as in In Your World the song seems to go about me and my life.
Lyrics:
Oh I am growing tired Of allowing you to steal Everything I have, you're making me feel Like I was born to service you But I am growing by the hour You left us far behind So we all discard our souls And blaze through your skies So afraid to die 'cause I was born to destroy you And I am growing by the hour And I'm getting strong in every way, yeah, yeah You led me on, you led me on, you ... Oh, and I'm getting strong in every way Yeah, yeah
1997 demo
Oh I am growing tired Of allowing you to steal Everything I had And it's making me feel Like I walk all over you I am growing by the hour You left me far behind And I'm always on your track And when I catch you out I will tear your soul apart I walk all over you And I am growing by the hour And I'm getting stronger every day Yeah, yeah You lead me on, you [?] And I'm getting stronger every day Yeah, yeah, yeah Oooooh

Hey everyone, it's time for a new episode of Fashion From My Perspective! This time, I'm going to tell you all about the Deathrock subculture, one of the coolest -and sadly, also one of the rarest- out there.
Let's start with explaining you what Deathrock actually is. Deathrockers are regarded by some as 'the missing link' between Punk and Goth, hence their extremely simliar appearance and musical tastes to the Trad Goths. However, while the Trad Goths tend to believe that Goth is dead, the Deathrockers see that Goth is still alive and twitching, in a suitably zombified form. Deathrockers are most easily recognised by their layers upon layers of ripped fishnets, band logos and enormous hair, Deathrockers listen not only to the 80s Goth Rock classics (Christian Death, Specimen and Alien Sex Fiend being notable examples), but also a new breed of crazed artists such as Cinema Strange and Tragic Black, as well as other genres such as Horror Punk and Psychobilly. As long as it’s mad, bad and features zombies / bats / death, it’s all good. Deathrockers may also be characterised by their love of old horror movies (the cheesier the better), and very often, a good (if slightly twisted) sense of humour.
One of the coolest things about Deathrockers, if you want my opinion, is the infamous Deathhawk. It's pretty much a mohawk, but a bit wider and with some hair on the sides of the head as well.
See?
It is interesting that deathrock nowadays fits under the Goth umbrella, as it emerged independently, beginning in America in the late 1970s, around the same time as those big four post-punk acts started to emerge in the UK. It was originally an offshoot of the punk scene combined with the Los Angeles hardcore music scene, and was first thought of as simply a darker take on punk, rather than a new genre of its own.
When the famous and influential Batcave club opened in London in 1983, internationally renowned as the world's first Goth club and 'home' of the Goth scene, the two main bands that debuted and performed there - namely Specimen and Alien Sex Fiend - were set apart from the rest of the post-punk scene in England by their strongly horror-influenced sound, the first recogniseable instance of deathrock beginning to emerge in the UK. Wikipedia says that, with the opening of the Batcave, and with UK bands such as Christian Death and The Gun Club starting to tour America, "the European Gothic rock scene and the American deathrock scene were now able to directly influence one another."
By 1984, when the UK scene (the Batcave bands, and fresh blood such as The Sisters of Mercy and The March Violets) had banded together under the label 'Gothic rock', the merger began when American deathrock band Kommunity FK toured with English Goth band Sex Gang Children, and for a while the terms 'Goth' and 'deathrock' were used interchangeably.
Nowadays, again like cyber, deathrock is both a subgenre of Goth and a genre in its own right, able to thrive within the Goth scene and still hold its own, subgenre-specific clubs and events (such as the Drop Dead Festival in New York).
Visually, deathrock incorporates some key elements from punk and trad Goth, such as ripped and patched clothing, badges and safety-pins galore, shredded tights, and big, big hair. Accessories are generally piled on by the dozen - layers of belts, chokers and chains, fishnet gloves and spiked wristbands. Clothing is generally as distressed as possible, sometimes even dusty or dirty - aiming for a 'just crawled out of the grave, and still ready to rock, ya bastards!' appearance.
Make-up is usually dramatic, often with strong horror influences - cheeks can be given a 'hollow' appearance with black or purple eyeshadow, and outfits may even be splattered with fake blood (although it takes a certain je ne sais quoi to pull this off). Deathrock can often be one of the more colourful Goth looks - bright colours, sometimes clashing combinations such as green and pink or green and purple, are used to accent all the black - and the same can hold true for make-up.
So, combine this huge amount of information and you'll get something like this:
If I've made you going 'OMG I WANT TO BE A DEATHROCKER!' by now, you might also wonder 'OMG WHERE CAN I BUY THOSE COOL CLOTHES?' Well, it's mostly just D.I.Y. Buy yourself a black blazer or jacket, and make it look cool with band patches, buttons and safety pins. Also buy loads of black pantyhoses, and some coloured ones as well. And then, well, yeah, just rip them. And wear then on top of each other. If your parents allow you, you might want to consider also buying one or two corsets, since they're worn by most Deathrockers.
In the end, it's all about creating your own look of course. You don't have to look like a stereotypical Deathrocker to be one.
I hope you've enjoyed this post, and see you next time!
Wednesday, My Chemical Romance has finally launched their new website www.singitforjapan.com plus a brand new beautiful version of SING, both as a support for the people in Japan.

I've been planning to post this for ages, so here it is. Quite a white ago already, Plantetary (GO!) form My Chemical Romance, was picked as 'Record Of The Week' by Greg James. They made this really funny jingle, which is more just Gerard screaming, lol. For some reason, I can't post the recording here, so this is the link:
This time, I'm going to tell you everything about 'The Small Print', one of those songs that you just like because it's a cool song, and not for any other complicated reason.
About The Small Print
A simple metal come heavy rock song.
Chosen ahead of "Fury" in the final track listing for Absolution. It was a live favourite from the 2002 tour up to and including the 2005 tour. Matt mentioned in an interview that he wanted Fury instead of The Small Print but the band had a vote and Matt was outnumbered 2-to-1 by Chris and Dom.
While initially played before Absolution's release, it went by the name 'Action Faust.' The song can be understood as, clearly alluding to Goethe's Faust, being sung from the point of view of the Devil to someone selling their soul to him in exchange for, presumably, musical prowess and fame. It shows the transaction as ultimately manipulative on the part of the Devil, dooming the recipient to be a "slave to the grave" and robbing him of all memories of "the good days". The Devil's identity can be seen in the line "I'm a priest God never paid"; he is able to mediate supernatural power but does so outside of the service of God. The final title "The Small Print" yet again underlies the motif of a dishonest contract between a Devil and Faustian figure.
At 2:51, a cat can be heard meowing.
My Opinion:
As I said, I just like this song because it's cool. I seriously didn't even knew the song was written from the Devils' point of view, I just liked the rythm and the lyrics. I also hope to be able to play it on my guitar one day, and maybe sing it at the same time. But I don't think my guitar and singing skills are good enough for that yet, lol.
Lyrics:
Take, take all you need
And I'll compensate your greed
With broken hearts
Sell, I'll sell your memories
For 15 pounds per year
But just the good days
Say, it'll make you insane
And it's bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm a priest God never paid
Hope, I hope you've seen the light
'cause no one really cares
They're just pretending
Sell, and I'll sell your memories
For 15 pounds per year
But you can keep the bad days
Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm a priest God never paid
Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm a priest God never paid
Early Live Lyrics:
Take, take all you need
And I'll compensate your greed
With broken hearts
Sell, and I'll sell your memories
At 15 pounds per year
But I'll keep the good days
Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm breaking the rules
You're to blame
For all the life you're losing
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And I'm not your slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid
Hope, and I hope you've seen the light
'cause no one really cares
They're just pretending
Sell, and I'll sell your memories
At 15 pounds per year
But I'll keep the good days
Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm breaking your rules
You're to blame
For all the life you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And I'm not your slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid
Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm breaking your rules
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
Yeah I'm going all the way
And I'm not your slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid

Yes, dear followers and fellow fans, this blog now has 20 followers! That means I made a new playlist, with new awesome songs. Here it is:
1. Funeral For A Friend - Red Is The New Black
2. My Chemical Romance - Kill All Your Friends
3. Metallica - St. Anger
4. Avenged Sevenfold - Eternal Rest
5. My Chemical Romance - Teenagers

10. Ok Go - Shooting The Moon
11. Editors - Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors

Like last time, the playlist is in the 'shuffle' mode, so that it won't start playing the same song over and over everytime you go to a new page or renew the page you're on.
Rockers Coldplay and Muse, and fellow British star Joss Stone, are among the acts who are lined up to perform at the opening of the 2012 Olympics in London.
The Yellow hitmakers are reportedly top of organisers' wish-list of acts to perform a specially-written track for the opening ceremony of the prestigious sporting event.
Soul singer Stone, Supermassive Black Hole rockers Muse, and Blur frontman Damon Albarn are also in the running to join a star-studded line-up at the launch of the event in July next year (12).
A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today, and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics.
"(The opening song) needs to be something inspirational. The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as produce a recording of the track, which could help fund good causes in British sport."
I just found this on Muselive, and it made my very day. It's just awesome news to hear that your favourite band is going to perform at the Olympics, I guess. Anyways, this is a good reason to watch the opening ceremony next jear. Who's with me?
Yes, dear followers and other cool people, today, Gerard Way is turned 34!
Like he's ever going to read this, but I just wanted to wish him a happy birthday, and I hope he'll enjoy his show in -I believe- Denver tonight, where some fans made this really cool book for him. The My Chem site is filled with messages from fans, you should really read them x]
And now, a quote:
"Hey, girls, you're beautiful. Don't look at those stupid magazines with sticklike models. Eat healthy and exercise. That's all. Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough. You're good enough, you are too good. Love your family with all your heart and listen to it. You are gorgeous, whether you're a size 4 or 14. It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, as long as you're a good person, as long as you respect others. I know it's been told hundreds of times before, but it's true. Hey, girls, you are beautiful." — Gerard Way
Let's all just sing Happy Birthday Gerard out loud :D
So, my fist English Behind The Songs post is about Citizen Erased, one of my peronal favourites.
About Citizen Erased
"It's an expression of what it feels like to be questioned. I spend more time than most people being asked about purpose, and it's a strange feeling. I don't really have the answers and I have to respond on the knowledge I have obtained so far, but the problem is that it gets printed, and something else has come along that's made you completely disagree with what you said". - Matthew Bellamy
It could also be a reference to Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four in which citizens are erased and lies control society. It was written around a drum beat that Dom created.
The first live performance of Citizen Erased had the outro played on guitar rather than keyboard. The keyboard outro was introduced at least as early as the 12th April 2001 - no recording exists between the first performance and then.
A different riff replaced the guitar solo towards the middle of the song during the Absolution Tour.
Citizen Erased is the only song where the 7 String E Manson is used.
For the week starting 9th July 2007, some members of Muselive.com and other fansites attempted to get Citizen Erased into the UK charts. It eventually reached position No 122. Jesting about the song's popularity three years later, Matthew Bellamy commented "[...] so we've got to change our website I think to uh— from Muse.mu to CitizenErased.com", before performing it within Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
During the Resistance Tour in Sydney on the 9th of December, Matt dedicated "Citizen Arrested" to Julian Assange, the Australian WikiLeaks founder who had been arrested in Sweden regarding alleged sexual offences just days earlier before playing Citizen Erased.
My Opinion:
I really think this is one of the best songs ever written. For some reason, I can listen to this over and over again without getting bored. I really love the instrumental part between the last '... So free' and 'Wash me away'.
The first part of the song is pretty hard and loud, but it slowly changes into a beautiful lullaby-like song. Muse should make more stuff like that.
I also think it's totally genius that a bunch of fans actually got the song into the UK charts... We should try it again once, lmao x]
Lyrics:
Break me in, Teach us to cheat And to lie, and cover up What shouldn't be shared And the truth's unwinding Scraping away at my mind Please stop asking me to describe For one moment I wish you'd hold your stage With no feelings at all Open-minded I'm sure I used to be so free Self-expressed Exhausting for all to see and to be What you want and what you need And the truth's unwinding Scraping away at my mind Please stop asking me to describe For one moment I wish you'd hold your stage With no feelings at all Open-minded I'm sure I used to be so free For one moment I wish you'd hold your stage With no feelings at all Open-minded I'm sure I used to be so free Wash me away Clean your body of me Erase all the memories They'll only bring us pain And I've seen all I'll ever need
Alternatively, the line:
Exhausting for all to see and to be
is sometimes be changed to:
Exhausting for all to see I still want to be
Music Video:
I couldn't resist posting the second video too, since I was there on the 19th of June. Teehee.
Hello dear followers and other cool people,
From the very beginning of this blog, I doubted if I should make this blog Dutch or English. Right now I have 19 wonderful followers and more than 1000 pageviews, but I'd like to get more out of it. So, I decited to -from now on- write all my posts in English, just so I can reach more people.
I totally get it if you want to kill me because of this, but there's something called Google Translater and, trust me, English really isn't THAT hard.
I also hope you guys don't resent me if I make some horrible mistakes in grammar, but, you know, I'm just a stupid Dutchmen, and I hope it'll stay readable anyway.
So. This will be the last Dutch post on this blog. I'll perhaps translate the old post into English once, but that takes alot of time and I do have a life too, so it won't happen very soon. It just takes some time.
Okay, so, now I feel like sharing my favourite English word with you: HOMIE! I call all my friends 'homie' and I also pretend to be a GANGSTAH, so, yeah, they usually feel kinda awkward around me.
(honestly, I don't even know if it's 'homie' of 'homy' but does that really matter?)
That was pretty much it, I guess. So, see you next time!
Vorig jaar kwamen Little Things That Kill, Baskerville, Baroness, Chief, Hef & Önder, Here We Go Magic, The Hickey Underworld, James Yuill, The Mad Trist, Omar Souleyman, The Strange Boys, Tim Knol, Adam Green, The Hype, Redtrack, Pam Feather, Babylon Circus, Brother Ali, Beans & Fatback, Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou, Hausmagger, Japandroids, Jack Parow, Accelerators en Chrome Hoof.
OH JA!
