Shop Till You Drop in Breda (The Netherlands)

Sup Guise!

At first, my apologies for not posting anything for a week now, I just wanted to enjoy my last week of holiday. School starts tomorrow (I don't want to think about it; I just don't want to go to school again :')
Anyways, in this post I am going to tell (and show!) you my favourite shops in Breda.
Breda is a city in the south of the Netherlands. I've lived there for almost 13 years so I know where the nice shops are, haha. It's here where I first walked into an alt shop.

Breda has a really cute city centre. It's not really big  (if you live in New York, Paris, Londen or some other big city you'll probably laugh yourself to death because it's so small) but for Dutch standards, it's okay.

Grote Kerk

In the centre of the Grote Markt (which in English would be 'Big Market', literally translated) there's the biggest church in the city. I think it's the coolest one ever. It's called Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk, but the people in Breda call it Grote Kerk ('Big Church') It has been build in the 15th century. It burned down a few times, and the construction process took over 100 years. The church is pretty much the central building in the city. You can see the big tower (I believe it's 98 metres high) from nearly everywhere in the city. Let's begin our shopping route here.

De Dansende Jak
The first shop I want to tell you about is De Dansende Jak. It's an alt shop, and it's located next to the church, in the Torenstraat (the full adress is Torenstraat 16, 4811 XX Breda).
It looks awesome, right? They used to sell loads of nice Gothic clothes, but over the years it became more and more an skater/emo shop. Goths can still find some nice stuff there, you just have to look very good. Some things they sell are Emily The Strange clothing, studded and spiked wristbands, belts, and apart from the usual brands like Hell Bunny and Living Dead Souls, they also sell their own brand called De Dansende Jak, and Skullcandy headphones, Dr. Martens, T.U.K. and Etnies shoes.
Note: De Dansende Jak is leaving (sadly) at August 27, 2011. So if you want to go there, be very quick! They do have a massive sale going on, so you can find nice clothes for a ridicilously low price.

Yes, that's right, Breda has 2 alt shops! The other one is Cupido Fashion. It's located in Lange Brugstraat (Lange Brugstraat 30, 4811 WS Breda) a street next to the shopping mall 'De Barones'.
I knew this shop existed for as long as I can remember, but I had never been in there until I was 11 or 12 years old. The kids in my school (and I guess in the whole city) used to be really scared by the white tigers and dolls with dreadlock wigs in the shop window. I always thought it looked cool.
Cupido Fashion sells loaaaaaads of bandshirts (in fact, the entire first floor is just bandshirts, bandshirts, bandshirts and just a few hoodies, slogan shirts, bondage pants and jewelry AND MASKS. They sell MASKS! How cool is that) My sister brought a Nirvana bandshirt there only a few days ago. On the second floor are also shirts, but other clothes too. The dressing rooms are there too.
The woman who runs the shop is the nicest woman ever. My sister and I have a chat with here everytime we are there.
The shop is very narrow, so it's a bit small, but the way it's decorated is just fabulous. There's a huge King Kong statue in the middle of the shop, and there are Chuckie dolls everywhere.
This is my favourite shop.

Toetie Froetie
Okay. Toetie Froetie has. The. Best. Ice. Cream. In. The Whole. Friggin. Universe. Period.
Adress: Grote Markt, at the very end there's an Irish Pub, then Toetie Froetie is at the right corner.

Other Shops
Breda has countless other shops. Stores you'll find everywhere (H&M, Zara, Vero Moda, Pimkie, Cool Cat, Miss Etam, Promiss, Bart Smit, Intertoys, Selexyz, and so on) and loads of coffee shops (hehehe xD). It's easy to get in the city centre, you can go by bus, bicycle, or with the train or car if you live elsewhere in the country or world.

Budget Shopping

Hello everyone,

I spend lots of time on the internet, and I noticed that most people interested in subcultures such as Goth, Emo, and Punk have a hard time finding affordable, but still cool looking clothes. So that's why I decided to make a post about budget shopping.
I'm going to make 3 complete outfits (exept shoes) with each a maximum prize of 50 euros (which is about 65 dollars or 35 pounds). Hope you like 'em!

For the Goths on budget

Okay, I think this worked out really well. You see, the black top is long and stretchy so it usually gets worn as a short dress. It looks great with the black lace top, and of course lace is a true Goth must-have. The striped panty is something you often see on Goths.
Also, really, every Goth needs a few necklages with pendants like bats, skulls, ankhs, crosses or a raven. I know how cheesy this might be, but they're just awesome.

For the Emo's on budget

When I hear 'Emo' I think of black combined with bright colours. And that made me think of the Cupcake Cult, a collection of shirts from Poizen Industries, which has loads of awesome shirts. I own three shirts myself, and I love them.
The yellow hoodie comes in diffrent colours, but the yellow matched the shirt so that's why I picked yellow.
Jeans are very simple, but comfortable and Emo's can often be seen with skinny jeans.
You can easily make this look a bit cooler with bright coloured gloves, accessoires and nail polish, but if I had to add those things I would gone out of budget. And I guess everyone has bright or black nailpolish.

For the Punks on budget

Gosh, making a Punk outfit under 50 euros was pretty hard, actually. But, I managed to make one.
I saw the dress and thought 'Hey, leopard is pretty punk.' and, honestly, I am right. Punks often wear leopard. I do as well. Leopard is cool.
Also, of course this outfit needed studs and spikes -we're talking about Punk here, after all- so obivously I used a spiked and a studded bracelet.

Shop Till You Drop @ Nieuwe Binnenweg, Rotterdam

Jawol, deze persoon hier houdt van rondstruinen in de stad en in leuke winkeltjes kijken x] Had je niet gedenkt he. Anyways, ik ga jullie in deze post alles vertellen over de leuke winkeltjes op de Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam.

Stap 1. Wat de faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack is de Nieuwe Binnenweg en hoe kom je daar?

Nou, de Nieuwe Binnenweg is een winkelstraat in Rotterdam. Je hebt de Oude Binnenweg, en voorbij het Eendrachtsplein verandert die naam in Nieuwe Binnenweg. Misschien omdat ie nieuwer is ofzo...

Je komt er vrij gemakkelijk. Als je in Rotterdam woont weet je vast hoe je er moet komen - het is een vrij bekende winkelstraat - en als dat niet het geval is:

Vanaf Rotterdam Centraal ga je met tram 20 naar het Eendrachtsplein. En dan ben je er. Hoe simpel is dat.
Je kunt ook met de metro komen - ik meen met metrolijn D (de lichtblauwe) maar niet slaan als dat fout is- en je kunt er vast ook met de auto komen maar ik kan me niet voorstellen dat iemand zin heeft om met de auto door Rotjeknor te rijden - file, file, file.

Je kunt ook met zo'n beetje alle trams en metro's  naar Beurs en vervolgens het straatje aan de achterzijde van het City Bril gebouw en naast de McDonalds inlopen, dan moet je van een trapje af en een stukje rechtdoor lopen en dan kom je er vanzelf.
Lol: Als je vanaf daar komt kom je langs de Crocks-winkel. Lachen x]

Stap 2: SHOPPEEEEEEEN! JEEJ ROZE JURKJES EN HAKKEN PASSEN!

Yeah right. We zijn nu op Eendrachtsplein. Aan de ene kant - Oude Binnenweg - zit een Emporio Armani (sorry als ik het fout spel) winkel, wat de meesten van jullie vast leuk vinden.
De andere kant op - Nieuwe Binnenweg, waar we het de rest van de post over gaan hebben - zitten winkeltjes die cooler, leuker en goedkoper zijn.

We beginnen onze shopping tocht bij 'The Punch', een winkel waar ze Dr.Martens en Underground schoenen verkopen die echt überstoer zijn.

Daarna lopen we door naar mijn lievelingswinkel: Black Widow. Hier hebben ze ALLES wat het hart van een alternatieveling streelt. Van broeken tot shirts, corsetten, schoenen, haarverf, sieraden, hoodies, jurken... ALLES. Hier dwing ik iedereen naar binnen te lopen, en gewoon effe te kijken, het is er echt superleuk.

Je komt hierna in het gebied dat volgepropt zit met schattige winkeltjes waar je echt naartoe moet, maar waar ik de naam niet van weet. Fail.

Ook zit er een eerste- en tweedehands muziekwinkel waar de muziekliefhebber zijn of haar hart echt kan ophalen. Ze hebben niet alleen CD's, maar ook ontzettend veel LP's. Ik heb er vandaag een supervroeg live-album van Muse gescoord waarvan zelfs ik nog nooit gehoord had. Just sayin'...

Helemaal aan het einde van de Nieuwe Binnenweg - nou ja, aan het einde van het leuke gedeelte-  zit een Kinky kapper. Voor als je denkt 'Ik ben nu toch in Rotterdam, laat ik eens een cool kapsel nemen.'
Niet dat iemand dat denkt maar oke. 

Tip: Doe eerst de kant van Black Widow en The Punch, loop dan tot aan het einde en doe dan de andere kant. Er rijden namelijk auto's door de straat en als je constant hyper heen en weer gaat rennen ben je plat.

En dan ben je zo'n beetje uitgewinkeld in de Nieuwe Binnenweg. Je kunt nu nog de stad in, of naar huis, of op een van vele terrasjes gaan zitten, of blijven staan. Kan ook.
