Behind The Songs: Uprising

Het eerste lied wat ik ga behandelen is Uprising. Jullie hebben het vast wel eens ergens gehoord, het is een vrij grote hit geweest in Nederland.

Over 'Uprising':

Het is het eerste lied op het album 'The Resistance' en ook de eerste single van het album. Omschreven als een "heavy rock take on Goldfrapp" in Mojo magazine. Matt Bellamy omschrijft het als een protestlied tegen de bankencrisis.

"The title of the album relates strongly to the first two tracks [the other being Resistance]. Uprising has the protest thing going on. I think that the whole song is about having a massive mistrust for people in power, whether it be government, or bankers. We're living in a society where we're being told to keep quiet, to just accept things as they are." - Chris Wolstenholme

"This song is influenced by glam rock, 80s synths, riots and the more eccentric protesters at the recent G2O protests. It expresses a general mistrust of bankers, global corporations, and politicians." - Matt Bellamy

Het lied eindigde op de 9e plaats op de Triple J hottest 100.

Soms, als het lied live wordt gespeeld, wordt de solo herhaald aan het eind van het laatste refrein. Het heet "Extended Version" of "Riff Version" op de setlists.

Aan het einde van de albumversie hoor je de Buchla synthesizer. Volgens Matt, in een inverview met Triple J (December 2010), hebben ze die al acht jaar maar is het voor de eerste en enige keer gebruikt in Uprising.

Mijn Mening:

Persoonlijk vindt ik Uprising heel cool. Het is niet het beste nummer wat Muse ooit gemaakt heeft en ook niet echt prachtig mooi om tranen in je ogen van te krijgen, maar het is een meezinger en de clip is echt awesome. Ook bij concerten is het zó geweldig als je iedereen mee hoort zingen, schreeuwen, springen, klappen, weet ik veel wat ze allemaal doen. Ik zal hier ook een live versie van zoeken, dan weet je wat ik bedoel.
