Song Of The Week: Sirensong by The Cure

Hello everyone,

This Song Of The Week post is about Sirensong from The Cure, since it got the most votes on the poll :)

I discovered The Cure in the winter of 2010/2011. I don't really remember why, but I think I just heard their name somewhere and looked them up or something. I found out about their 2008 album, 4:13 Dream, listened to it, and liked it a lot. On my holiday in Czech I found the album in some CD shop (in Czech the music shops have the biggest selection of alternative/rock/metal/deathcore/whatever music ever! They have everything) and brought it immediately. We played it a lot in the car, my parents like The Cure too, it reminds them of the 'good old times' or something, and I listened to it on my iPod as well so whenever I listen to it now it just brings back the holiday feelings and I love it. Sirensong in particular is a very dreamy song, like ocean waves almost. It's really peaceful.

On the website SongMeanings.com, I found this comment: It's basically someone so wanting to be together and wishing the other one felt the same, but like many of his songs, he doesn't care and is stuck thinking: shall I lie and tell her will love her forever? Sometimes he gets in the game and deceives her, and sometimes shocks her as she's innocent so he can get rid of her, sometimes wants perhaps to abuse her and in the end, he tells her to fuck off. If she dont' get the message that he basically either hates or despises her, which sounds like that to me, then wot?

I have been looking, but couldn't find an official source to confirm this meaning, but I was thinking the same thing actually. You can find the lyrics from Sirensong here (all the songs from the album are in the list, just scroll down and you'll find Sirensong too)

A nice newsflash is that The Cure will be playing at several European festivals this summer, including Pinkpop in The Netherlands. Which of course is totally awesome and I am going to beg my parents for money for a ticket. Which they are totally not going to give me but I can give it a shot though.

Thank you for reading!

Green Day Start Recording A New Album

Best news of 2012 so far. This is what I found on the MTV website:

While you were wasting time with flowers, candy and/or restraining orders on Valentine's Day, Green Day were getting down to business, beginning sessions for a brand-new album.

That's according to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who broke the news (and a four-month Twitter hiatus) on his personal account Tuesday — and coined a rather amazing euphemism for recording in the process.

"Happy Valentine's Day!" he tweeted. "Officially started recording the new record today. It's F--- TIME!!!!"
Yes, we're aware "It's F--- Time" is also a song by Green Day's side-project, the Foxboro Hot Tubs, though it works well in the recording context too, so we're sticking with it. No word on just who Green Day have brought in to helm said f--- time (an email to their publicist was not responded to by press time), but the sessions will bring forth the first studio album since the band's 2009 effort 21st Century Breakdown. Last year, they played a secretshow in California that included a reported 15 new songs, though it's not known if those songs will make the new album.

Of course, as any Green Day fan will surely tell you, Valentine's Day also holds a rather significant place in the band's lore: In 2003, the band recorded an entire album called Cigarettes and Valentines, though the master tapes were supposedly stolen, and the band decided to scrap the project in favor of the album that would reinvigorate their career: American Idiot. During the band's 21st Century Breakdown world tour, they began working the title track from that lost album into their set list, and it made the cut for the 2011 live album, Awesome as F---.

And with that, we've officially set a new record for most uses of the F-word in an MTV News story. History in the making, people!

Song Of The Week: A Little Piece Of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold

Hello everyone,

I decided to start a new series of posts on this blog, and they'll be called Song Of The Week. Since my taste in music ranges from Metallica to Coldplay and from Gothminister to Mika, I figured It'd be a good idea to share the songs that I like with all of you! It's like the Behind The Songs posts I used to do with Muse songs, but with every artist/band I listen to. I pick a song weekly, and tell you the background story. Let's just begin with A Little Piece Of Heaven from Avenged Sevenfold.

Source: Google Images
I discovered the band Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) in the summer of 2010. I needed some new artists on my iPod and someone suggested A7X. I listened to some of the examples of their songs on iTunes and brought the song 'Nightmare'. After a few weeks, I just brought their entire discography because I found them really awesome. The song A Little Piece Of Heaven is from their fourth album, which is simply called 'Avenged Sevenfold'. I didn't like the album at first so I got it off of my iPod, but I listened to it again a couple of weeks ago and discovered that I did like the songs now. A Little Piece Of Heaven is definately my favourite song from the album, and one of my favourite songs in general.

The official music video with lyrics

According to the website songfacts.com, A Little Piece Of Heaven is "a romantic, yet very dark song, this is about a couple living together. The man fears that something will happed and their relationship will break up, so he takes control and kills his girl, preserves her and rapes her dead body when needed. Soon she comes back from the dead and kills her man the same way he did. He is brought back from the dead and they get back together after he feels remorse for what he did. They get married in death for the rest of their unnatural life before they start killing other people."

The lyrics from A Litte Piece Of Heaven are in the video, but you can also find them here
What do you thing of the first Song Of The Week post? Do you have any advice? You can always leave a comment if you want.
